We write a lot about the TPD regulations here on the ELFC blog, often trying to put a positive spin on it. However, we are fully against the legislation and hope that common sense will prevail and that the whole thing will eventually be scrapped. If you’re unfamiliar with how the TPD will affect vaping, check out our guide here.
One of the main limitations that the TPD will inflict on vaping is that tanks can have a capacity of no more than 2ml. Daft, right? How this makes vaping safer is anyone’s guess. It just means that vapers will have to full theirs up more often. And for the record, despite the title of this article, we fully believe that tanks should be allowed to be whatever size people like.
But the limitation is going ahead so we decided to write the article pointing out why 2ml may not be such a bad thing after all.
1: What’s the difference?
Here is list of three tanks you may have heard of: The Aspire Mini Nautilus, The Wotofo Serpent Mini, The Aspire Atlantis. Two things unite these three tanks 1) They were very, very popular with sales figures in the millions and 2) they all had a capacity of around 2ml (yes, the Serpent Mini was marketed as having a 3ml capacity, however, this could only really be achieved with the help of witchcraft). The point being that a small capacity hasn’t stopped tanks from becoming popular before.
2: Flavour
One thing we can all agree on is that the flavour of your e liquid improves when your coils are closer to your mouth. This is why RDAs and RDTAs are renowned for having the best flavour. This is also true of short tanks, and there’s no way that a 2ml tanks is going to be as big as some of the larger capacity sub ohm tanks and RTAs that we see now.
3: Looks
Wide, tall tanks definitely have their advantages (large capacities and build decks being the obvious ones), be we have seen a trend recently of vapers preferring shorter tanks. Why? Aesthetics, mainly. And flavour. So whilst 2ml tanks may have their drawbacks, they’ll definitely be more pleasing on the eye than a 30mm, 8ml capacity monster.
