What is sub-ohm vaping?

Wed 27 Jan 2021

If you are new to vaping, you may have seen the term ‘sub-ohm vaping’ while you are looking across the hundreds of websites on the topic to see if this is something you want to try.

Maybe you are an experienced vaper and you want to attempt something new. No matter what your reason is, sub-ohm vaping is basically a different type of experience to what the traditional vape may be.

The idea behind sub-ohm vaping is that it basically provides a fuller experience for the user. More vapour going to your lungs creates a richer experience of its flavour, and allows you to produce more smoke and provide more of a hit.

If you are a cloud-chaser, this could be exactly the sort of vaping you are looking for.

The main cons with sub-ohm vaping are that it uses up more e-liquid, which means you may need to buy more. But you have to pay for quality, so if you are happy spending the money, sub-ohm vaping could be the way to go.

Let’s get technical

You may still be wondering what sub-ohm actually means.

Sub-ohm refers to the fact that the resistance of the coil in a vaping device is below one ohm, which is electrical resistance.

It is also known as Direct To Lung (DTL) as opposed to its Mouth To Lung equivalent (MTL).

It is effectively like breathing through a straw, so that the hit goes straight to your lungs and bypasses the mouth, and then you exhale it straightaway.

Then you can produce large clouds of vapour that will look great if you’re in the right setting.

What you’ll need

Sub-ohm vaping often requires a bigger battery because there is more power involved in getting the vapour straight to your lungs. If you use a smaller battery, you will find that the life has been drained out of it before you know it.

Getting the right e-liquid is also very important. You will require a thicker liquid for direct to lung vaping rather than mouth to lung vaping. The VG/PG ratio should be along the lines of 70/30 or even 80/20 if you want to try sub-ohm vaping, as opposed to the standard 50/50. The majority of sub-ohm vapers will use around 3mg nicotine as well. Any more than 6mg is just too much and it can get extremely harsh on your throat, which is something you don’t want.

o, if you are looking for a different style of vaping that gives you more of a hit and allows you to provide wicked clouds, sub-ohm vaping may be the one for you. Just make sure you are using the correct equipment and have done plenty of reading and research into the subject beforehand so that you can enjoy the benefits of sub-ohm vaping safely and responsibly.
